Job Description

Aon is looking for a Sr Scientist for Impact Forecasting in Hurricane Model Developing!

The Hurricane model developer will be part of Wind modeling team within Impact Forecasting focused on development of solutions for tropical cyclone, its related hazards and how climate change impacts then. The role responsibilities include, but are not limited to building historical, stochastic and climate-conditioned stochastic event sets, modeling of surface wind speeds, estimating hurricane parameters, analyzing tropical cyclone related data, implementing hazard into modeling platform ELEMENTS, incorporating of the latest climate change research into catastrophe models etc. The position is full-time and is located in Chicago, IL.

Role Responsibilities:
  • Tropical cyclone hazard (development of stochastic tracks, tropical cyclone wind fields, parameter estimates etc.) and climate change impacts on the same
  • Automation of insurance loss forecast of tropical cyclones
  • Adaptation of tropical cyclone catastrophe model for estimates of climate change impact on insurance loss
  • Implementation of the model into unified catastrophe modeling platform
  • Applied research in various topics related to tropical cyclone, loss impact and climate change influencing tropical cyclone activity
Skills and experience that will lead to success:
  • M. S. or PhD degree in Meteorology, Climate Science, Oceanography, or similar Earth Science field with focus on climate change (required)
  • Fluent in programming in some of the following - MATLAB, R, Python (required)
  • Problem solving skills, collaborative attitude, willingness to learn (required)
  • Experience with MS products - Word, PowerPoint, Excel (required)

Desired Skills (not required, but would help you stand out)

Experience with catastrophe modeling (preferred)

User level experience with SQL, ArcGIS, QGIS is useful (preferred)

Pay Transparency Laws:

The salary range for this position is $73,800 to $110,000 annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.
